So I deleted because I'm just ~over it, and then I undeleted because I needed to download a bunch of music and the best place to do that is LiveJournal. And then thinking about it, I decided to stay, because where else can I keep lists of movies I've seen and books I'm reading and records I've bought?
The being said, I'm not going to actively participate on LJ anymore. I like reading other people's posts and I like looking at things and I like downloading stuff, but I've got other things going on now. Like roleplaying. You heard right, I've replaced SS with roleplaying. It's good stuff, my character looks like Chanel Iman.

Anyway, I have these things actively happening, but from here on out, consider me a lurk.

I hate that I do this all the time, and if you've known me for long enough you know how fucking irritatingly capricious I am, especially on the Internet, but the heart wants what the heart wants, and my heart wants devote too much time to role playing and not anonymous posts.

I want to invent a real-life search engine. Except, instead of punching in like, "Find: My Keys" it can only find ghosts. So you bring it into your potential new apartment and hit "Find" and it will tell you if there are any poltergeists or old lady spirits haunting the place. It will be called "Boogle."

Josh and I had a friend, Liz, come through town on her way to the Rainbow Gathering which is in New Mexico this year. We both disapproved of her destination, but accepted and took her in regardless. She came in Friday night from Denver and my parents, who are totally dope, let her sleep in the basement, fed us pizza and told me that I live here, too, and I am allowed to have people over to sleep in the basement and it wasn't a big deal, and Liz should make herself comfortable and eat out food. Love them.
We didn't get much done, she was only here for like 30 hours, but we went hiking, made vegetarian pigs in a blanket, which were amazing, drank some beers, watched part of the Toxic Avenger, slept in the same room. We were going to go camping but Liz's unreliable hippy friends insisted on picking her up at 1 a.m., only to realize they were tired and changed their plans to pick her up at 9 a.m. the next morning. Thanks, dudes. Here are some hiking pictures.

Standing on a big rock.

Adorable boypren~

Liz and Josh.
Here's my Michael Jackson memory, because I have one.

When I was 7 I was absolutely obsessed with Free Willy. I loved everything about the movie, wanted to be a whale trainer, wanted to free a captive whale, fucking everything. I was out of my mind with Free Willy. One day my mom bought me the tape of the soundtrack, and every day I would play the tape on the downstairs stereo while I did my homework after school, rewinding and repeating "Will You Be There" over and over and over. My brother got so fed up one day that he started screaming at me and my mom had to intervene.

Today, the first day of the summer semester, started pretty poopy but by no fault of my own, I've managed to stop being crabby.

It was only 11 days long, but I've had a pretty good "summer," and that's all thanks to Josh, who is quite possibly the most wonderful, exciting person in the whole world. And the funnest. Except he lost fun points for not coming into the petting zoo.

We went into the mountains.

We went bowling.
I've always been kind of shocked/horrified that more people don't know of and read Ellen Gilchrist. She's one of the most wonderful American writers alive today and she writes so much that it's baffling more people haven't run into her work. I found one of her books on my mother's book shelf when I was 13 or so and loved it. I think it was Victory Over Japan, a collection of some of her wonderful wonderful short fiction.
Anyway, as I've said she's written a lot of things, but of all the things I've read this has to be my most favorite. An excerpt from "Nineteen Forty-One," a short story about one of Gilchrist's recurring characters, Rhoda. In this story, Rhoda is about 5 or 6 years old. The year is 1941.

"Get your jodhpurs on, honey," her father said. He was sitting on the gate. "Mr. Trumbo is bringing his little girl over here to ride."

     "I can't," she said. "I'm menstruating."

"Oh, my God," he said, and climbed down off the fence, hoping to get to her before she said it again and the boys heard it. "ARIANE," he screamed toward the house. "ARRIIIIIANNNEEE, get out here and get this child. Who told you that?" he demanded, taking her by the arm. "Who told you a thing like that?" His face was as red as the sun. Rhoda's mother came running out of the house and across the yard and swooped her up. "Where does she learn those things?" he was saying. "Who told her that? Who told her such a thing?"

"Sherry Nettleship's aunt told us all about it," Rhoda said. "You can't ever go swimming and blood runs down your legs. And you can't ride horses or anything like that. I've been doing it all morning. There's blood all over the sidewalk. Go look for yourself." It was an inspiration. Actually, Rhoda had spilled red Kool-Aid while she was making fire. That was what had drawn the ants. "You can die if you aren't careful," she continued. "Anything can happen when you menstruate."

I hate people who paint/draw shoes and clothes just for fun, because I want to do that too because it's cute and would be a good exercise but, in my mind, it's a massive waste of paper. And I can't afford to waste paper.

It probably took me about 10 times to finally beat it, and I would do the Elite Four often just to grind/collect XP and money but I usually had trouble with the Fire trainer. Soon, he got kind of easy but I never made it past the last Elite Four guy, the Psychic trainer. I went in with the intention of just grinding, but I used Dialga as my main for a change because he has so much HP, and the next thing I know I'm battling the league champion! I only had ONE PP restore, which was so stupid, but somehow I made it through slowly chipping away and using a lot of revives and potions! I was so psyched to have finished and I'm pretty excited to pick up Platinum soon.

The End

I am currently reading Smoke and Mirrors, a short story collection by Neil Gaiman. All of his stories are great, but this one, called "One Life, Furnished in Early Moorcock", stuck out in a book full of H.P. Lovecraft references and Beowulf re-tellings. The story is about an 11 year old boy and his relationship with fiction, primarily fiction written by Sci-Fi/Fantasy writer Michael Moorcock.
Here is

It was six months later. Richard had been bar mitzvahed and would be changing schools soon. He and J.B.C. MacBride were sitting on the grass outside the school in the early evening, reading books. Richard's parents were late picking him up from school.
Richard was reading The English Assassin. MacBride was engrossed in The Devil Rides Out.
Richard found himself squinting at the page. It wasn't properly dark yet, but he couldn't read anymore. Everything was turning into grays.
"Mac? What do you want to be when you grow up?"
The evening was warm, and the grass was dry and comfortable.
"I don't know. A writer, maybe. Like Michael Moorcock. Or T.H. White. How about you?"
Richard sat and thought. The sky was a violet-gray, and a ghost moon hung high in it, like a sliver of a dream. He pulled up a blade of grass and slowly shredded it between his fingers, bit by bit. He couldn't say "A writer" as well now. It would seem like he was copying. And he didn't want to be a writer. Not really. There were other things to be.
"When I grow up," he said, pensively, eventually, "I want to be a wolf."
"It'll never happen," said MacBride.
"Maybe not," said Richard. "We'll see."
The lights went on in the school windows, one by one, making the violet sky seem darker than it was before, and the summer evening was gentle and quiet. At that time of year, the day lasts forever, and the night never really comes.
"I'd like to be a wolf. Not all the time. Just sometimes. In the dark. I would run through the forests as a wolf at night," said Richard, mostly to himself. "I'd never hurt anyone. Not that kind of wolf. I'd just run and run forever in the moonlight, through the trees, and never get tired or out of breath, and never have to stop. That's what I want to be when I grow up ..."
He pulled up another long stalk of grass, expertly stripped the blades from it, and slowly began to chew the stem.
And the two children sat alone in the gray twilight, side by side, and waited for the future to start.

which is the most beautiful thing I've read in a long time.

Plus, I'm in the middle of a Neil Gaiman story about a mysterious Penthouse model who never ages.

I should brush my teeth, but they don't feel dirty. And I'm already in bed.

Last Monday was absolutely gorgeous so Josh and I decided to go hiking. We were on our way to Garden of the Gods but ended up stopping at Pulpit Rock Park. Pulpit Rock is a strange island of rock in the middle of town. It's surrounded by open space, some paths and is good for wandering and probably smoking weed. In fact, the whole area seems ideal for taking psychotropic drugs, worshiping Satan, human sacrifice and general teenage mischief. Also, a really tops place to commit suicide.

First we found a tube and decided it would be a good idea to go inside.

It was very cold inside the tube, despite the fact that it was 75 degrees outside.

I was made for the jungle.

Josh smells what the rock is cooking.

Why am I the dumpiest, most gnarly girl in the world? You can just hear the cartoon "walking" music in the background...doonk-a-doonk-a-doonk-a-doonk...

After 45 minutes of screwing around we got to the top. There were some teenagers who looked like they had just gotten out of school and some girls reading books (probably Twilight) up there. It was sort of weird.

Josh performed some antics.

And stood on the edge. Bring back the Chinese river dolphin!

"It has also increased the possibility that it will one day be possible to reproduce long-dead species such as woolly mammoths and even dinosaurs."

Worst idea ever. Between this and robots, the human race is completely screwed. I mean, I never expected to live past 50 anyway but I was hoping to go the way the rest of the women in my family did, with dignity and cancer, not enslaved to some cloned dinosaur with robot DNA.
